Getting Great Tasting BBQ Ribs
Ribs are one of those cuts that are a little tough. Unlike steak or hamburger, perfect ribs are hard to achieve on the home grill. Hard but not impossible, with the right tips and tricks you too can have the perfect BBQ ribs. When you think about it, BBQ ribs shouldn't be at all impossible.
After all barbeque is essentially a process of slowly roasting meat and this should give you tender meat that falls off the bone while still delicious and meaty tasting. These tips will give you the best ways to get perfect ribs so that you can always be assured of satisfied guests and the pride of knowing you made something that good.
Never Boil
Some people will tell you to boil your ribs before you barbeque them. The logic being that boiling will give you tender BBQ ribs later on. It is true that boiling will produce tender meat but it will not give you the best tasting ribs. That's because all the flavor is floating in the water you boiled the ribs in. That's right, boiling ribs will steal all the yummy flavor out of your ribs. Something you want to avoid.
Control the Heat
It is often tempting to cook your BBQ ribs on high heat so that they will be done quickly. This is a fast route to having dry and tough ribs. To have the best BBQ ribs you need a low heat for a long period of time. To get your ribs done perfectly start on them before your guests get there. This way everyone's not waiting around for you to finish cooking the ribs. Keep the temperature between 250 and 300, no higher and no lower.
Marinade
For optimum flavoring you need to start marinating the night before. Before you slap on your famous marinade you need to peel off the silver skin that clings to the underside of your ribs. This is a membrane that will prevent any flavoring getting into the meat.
So no matter how delicious the marinade is your ribs will be quite tasteless if this is left in place. Cut off the silver lining without taking off any meat and the marinade. Leave in the fridge overnight to allow the ribs to soak up the ribs nicely.
Smoky Goodness
BBQ ribs taste best when they have been cooked with lots of smoke and as little contact with direct heat as possible. Use a gas BBQ grill with wood chips and you will get amazing ribs. Whatever way you use to duplicate this effect will work fine.
