Congestive Heart Disease Can Be Prevented

If you live an unhealthy lifestyle, such as you eat the wrong foods, drink lots of alcohol, you smoke, and you don't exercise regularly, you could be at risk for congestive heart disease. This disease kills many people each and every year; but it doesn't have to. If you don't lead a very healthy lifestyle, you should get checked out by your doctor to make sure you don't already have congestive heart disease. If you don't, you're lucky and you still have a chance to turn your body and lifestyle around. If you do have congestive heart disease, ask your doctor if there's anything he or she can do for you. Prevention is the biggest saver of lives when it comes to any type of heart disease, so do all you can to learn what causes the disease and how to keep away from it so that you can live as long as possible.

Eat A Balanced Diet

One of the major causes of congestive heart disease is eating foods high cholesterol, sodium, fat, sugar and other harmful ingredients. The problem is that most restaurants serve these types of foods on a regular basis and they are prominently displayed on many restaurant commercials and in their menus. You can still eat out and you can make healthy food choices, you just have to make a conscious effort to do so. You should try to eat as many of your meals at home, or bring your lunches with you to work. That way, you know exactly what's in the food that you're eating and you can help keep congestive heart disease at bay.

Smoking And Alcohol

Everyone has their vices. However, if you smoke and you drink too much, you could be at risk for congestive heart disease. Smoking is very hard to quit and so is alcohol if you're an alcoholic. Drinking in moderation is ok, but smoking should be stopped immediately. Try smoking cessation products or even prescriptions from your doctor and try to find other ways to pass your time rather than spending all your free time at the bar if you hope to keep away from congestive heart disease.

Exercise

Many of us lead sedentary lifestyles. We may sit at a desk all day at work and then go home and veg in front of the TV. This can lead to congestive heart disease as well. So get outside as often as you can. Run on the treadmill, walk around the block, or just walk up and down a flight of stairs a few times. Work that heart and keep it healthy and you can hopefully keep yourself from ever coming down with congestive heart disease.
