Consider Safety When Adding Hedge Trimmer Attachment

Most People consider having a hedge trimmer a necessity, especially if their homes are surrounded by these low-cut bushes. However, there are some hedge trimmer attachments that can make the job easier for those with larger hedges and that can also allow the trimmer to be used for other jobs around the yard. Things like extension handles and boom attachments can make reaching taller or wider hedges easier, instead of having to visit both sides of the hedge.

In some landscaping designs, the hedges may be located close to a building or other structure that makes getting to the back difficult if not impossible. A hedge trimmer attachment such as the boom can make the far side of the hedge reachable without having to virtually lay on top of the front half. This kind of hedge trimmer attachment can also be used to trim the hedge in some hard to reach places.

The thing to remember about using a hedge trimmer attachment is that it may take a little time to get used to using them. The center of weight of the trimmer will be affected by the size and weight of the hedge trimmer attachment making it different to use than what the homeowner may be used to. This can cause potential for injuries or at the very least the possibility of a hedge that is trimmed into some unknown shape.

Being Cautious With Power Source

While a hedge trimmer attachment can make the job easier, once the user gets used to the shift in weight, they can also pose additional opportunities, especially with an electric powered trimmer. The cord is still going to be attached to the trimmer, usually in the back and when using a hedge trimmer attachment, such as a double sided blade, could become tangled up in the blades. This can provide quite a shock to the user if they are not careful as to the position of the extension cord.

Some of the trimmers have an available hedge trimmer attachment that turns their hedge trimmer into a pruning saw. Electric trimmers, with the dangling extension cords can be especially vulnerable to damage while the gas powered trimmers can quickly take off a branch or two that maybe were not marked for removal. It is advised that only those persons experienced with hedge trimmer attachment use a pruning attachment at the same time as they have a boom handle connected to their trimmer.
