Honolulu Hawaii is the capital as well as the most populous community in the State of Hawaii. The Honolulu District is located on the southeast coast of Oahu between Makapuu and Halawa, and most of the city's commercial and industrial developments are located on a narrow but relatively flat coastal plain. Downtown Honolulu Hawaii is especially popular, and is recognized as being the financial, commercial and governmental center of Hawaii.

There are a lot of different areas that comprise the city of Honolulu Hawaii, including Manoa and Maikiki, Nuuanu and Pauoa, Palolo and Kaimuki, and Waikiki which is known as being the world famous tourist district of Honolulu, and which is located between the Ala Wai Canal and the Pacific Ocean next to Diamond Head. The Waikiki Beach attracts millions of visitors each and every year, and just west of here is Ala Moana Center, which is the world's largest open-air shopping center.

Government

Government is a very important matter not only in Honolulu but in all of Hawaii, and in terms of the government of Honolulu Hawaii, the residing mayor is Mufi Hannemann, who is the 12th mayor of the city and county of Honolulu, after taking office on January 2, 2005. He is a Harvard-educated leader and former star athlete, and has the distinction of serving in the administrations of four different United States presidents: Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush.

Hannemann has made much progress during his time as mayor, including restoring fiscal integrity and accountability at City Hall, focusing on basic public services, and improving the quality of life for all citizens. The concentrates largely on City services, namely at ensuring public safety, repairing and maintaining the roads, improving sewer systems and managing solid waste and recycling, and tackling traffic and transportation issues.

Honolulu Botanical Gardens

There are many different locales that are considered as must-sees when traveling to Honolulu Hawaii, one in particular being the Honolulu Botanical Gardens. Their mission here is to plan, develop, curate, maintain and study documented collections of tropical plants in an aesthetic setting for the purposes of conservation, botany, horticulture, education, and recreation.

There are five distinct gardens that combine together to form a unique garden system here at the Honolulu Botanical Gardens center, and these five gardens are located in different ecological settings around the island of Oahu. If you are ever in the Honolulu area this is definitely one spectacle that you are not going to want to miss.
