Temporary Impotence

While an occasional inability to become sexually aroused and functioning can happen to anyone regardless of gender, the problem of temporary impotence most often affects males. Unlike the ongoing condition of erectile dysfunction, temporary impotence can occur at any time and without overt causes.

Performance anxiety is a major problem, especially for the inexperienced or those who find themselves in a weakening relationship. Other stress situations, be they at work, school or in the home can divert the mind's attention to the point of not being able to achieve proper arousal physically.

In itself, temporary impotence should be considered no more than a mild nuisanse. There is no real physical condition causing the problem of not responding to typical stimuli. Usually a period of temporary impotence will go away on its own provided the subject does not become so obsessed with the problem that they create stress levels that further fuel the inability.

It is only if the condition starts to take on a more permanent nature would one need to seek professional diagnosis or treatment. While there are drugs that can help those with serious permanent impotence problems, it is very risky to try these treatments is the problem is temporary. The risk of heart attack increases even for those who require such help. To put yourself in such danger for a temporary setback might only increase the dilemma.

Usually a case of temporary impotence will pass with the passing of the underlying psychological reason. If financial, work related or relationship problems are resolved then normal

sexual function will usually soon return. It should be noted that excessive use of alcohol will result in this same problem. Being a depressant, alcohol can not only leave the nervous system too anesthetized to pick up on needed stimuli but will decrease the ability to concentrate on the activity as well.
