A Look At Skil Power Tools
I bet you didn't know who invented that hand held circular saw you own. I would also be willing to bet that you don't know how long that design has been around. If you own any Skil power tools then there is a good chance you own a good old number 77 portable circular saw. That design of the old 77 has been around for almost 80 years and is the original design of the saw from the day that Skil power tools invented it in 1928. The Skil company has a long and interesting history when it comes to its little place in power tool history and since its creation the Skil power tools line has become not only one of the most recognizable power tools on the market but there is a pretty good chance that if you are driving by a construction site that is using portable circular saws then you will find some Skil power tools at that site. They are a standard of the construction industry and they have been for decades.
Skil power tools were first crafted when the Skil company was opened as the Michel Electric Handsaw Company in 1924. In 1926 they changed the named of the company to the Skil Company and then the rest of history was just waiting to be written. In 1928 they released the E Model of the handheld circular saw that we now know as their model 77. The original die cast aluminum housing is still used and its superior engineering makes it stay on top as one of the best selling hand power tools in the industry. From the model 77 the rest of the Skil power tools started to take shape until today you have a full range of tools for any job and it doesn't matter if you need a corded power tool or cordless because Skil has the Skil power tools you need for the job you are doing.
A Big Merger
In 1960 Skil took their show on the road and began offering Skil power tools all over the world and their quality and innovation was met with the same enthusiasm in Europe as it was here in the United States. They built a power tool factory in Europe and a small motor factory in Europe as well. Today the model 77 portable circular saw is as common in Germany as it is in the United States.
In 1992 the Skil Company was assumed by the Robert Bosch Corporation and became the S-B Power Tool Company which continues to offer the Skil power tools and continues to be a world leader in power tool technology and advancements in the power tool industry.
