The Beauty Of Braided Rugs

Braided rugs can be very interesting to have in the home. They add a certain flair to a room and can also be very beautiful additions to an area. These kinds of rugs can be called area rugs because they are usually limited in size, not as large as carpets.

Common Materials Used For Braided Rugs

The traditional medium for most braided rugs is wool but there have been times when cotton fabric is used. Nowadays, braiding a rug is usually done with the design in mind. The person who braids the rug prepares specific strips of clothing to add to the rug as they go on making it. Traditionally, these kinds of rugs were made from extra pieces of wool. This means that the rug might have varying shades of color.

Compared to the modern braided rugs today, the traditional ones had no pattern to follow. It is just a few decades ago that the rug makers made these kinds of rugs with patterns in mind. Braided rugs are now usually made with a limit of just two to four shades of color. Of course, there are no rules that say just how many colors should be in a rug but rug makers sell rugs that have a certain color compared to haphazard rugs made with extra pieces of cloth. Integrating a pattern to your braided rugs can be a bit difficult to do at first but as you make several rugs you will be able to determine when and where to add certain colors to make patterns on you rugs.

How Braided Rugs Are Made

Braided rugs are usually made with strips of cloth or wool. These strips are cut to around two inches width depending on how thick the original cloth is. If the cloth is thin, you might need to cut the cloth into wider strips. Strips are usually added to the last strip being braided to make the rug larger in size. When braided rugs are finally finished braiding, you will still need to lace the braids together with lacing needles and special lacing thread or just ordinary thin string.

Braided rugs may sound difficult tot make but they are actually very easy to do. Some people even say they braid rugs by without even thinking about it. As with some projects, the initial part is usually the most difficult. As you get the hang of it, it would seem that you have been making braided rugs all your life.
