Factors That Can Cause Marriage Problems

In the first days after a marriage, everything looks really bright, a future spent together in union with a loved spouse, the opportunity of raising beautiful children, of living together happily, and remaining happy even in the process of aging, or in face of illnesses or any problems, even marriage problems. However, the fact is that it is very likely that one thing or another that could have looked really hopeful, will cause serious problems in the marriage or that some other problems will come up that lead to the breakdown of communication or intimacy.

Children

Although every couple fantasizes about beautiful, healthy and smart children, even if the reality is quite close to this picture, children can be the source of many marriage problems. Firstly, many couples cannot have any children of their own, which may not be discovered until a few years into the marriage. This often seems to be an unexpected obstacle, and many couples cannot deal with it, which will definitely cause marriage problems. Then several issues can come up while raising children, couples may not be on the same opinion about matters of educating the children or for example resolving behavioral problems. Children might also become seriously ill, which will perhaps cause some marriage problems.

Job Loss and Financial Matters

In many cases, both husband and wife are working and earning money, and even in these cases, though especially if the breadwinner is solely the wife or the husband, the loss of a job can potentially cause serious marriage problems. The loss of a job will often leave a person frustrated and depressed, questioning his or her own value, which in itself, can lead to problems. However, the loss of a job can also cause serious financial matters, which will definitely lead to marriage problems, especially if no new job or other settlement can be found. Financial matters can lead to the worsening of the quality of life, and thus new marriage issues and problems.

Depression, Addiction, Substance Abuse

If one half of a couple is depressed, has mental illnesses or is addicted to alcohol or drugs, this can lead to an essential breakdown of the marriage. Both husband and wife will become frustrated, the one who has the problems will be because he or she can apparently not solve the problems that is causing suffering for the entire family. The one who has to suffer the substance abuse or depression of the other half will initially try to help, but after a point, he or she will not be able to do anything, and the marriage will fall apart. All of these can lead to serious marriage problems, and especially if the problem is serious that perhaps cannot be resolved as easily as minor problems with children or some financial matters. In these serious cases it is often advisable to see a psychologist ora marriage counselor, someone who is able to give professional help.
