Living In Singapore
Life in Singapore is based upon the principle of cultural diversity and mutual respect. Having been a port city for centuries, Singapore has residents from many parts of the world and hosts all their cultural and religious needs. The majority of the population of Singapore live in the government's Housing and Development Board high rise apartment complexes. These were created and maintained to keep all the attendant ethnic groups mixed for maximum exposure to the natural diversity of the people.
There are a few distinctly ethnic areas in the city although they are more for commercial targeting of specialized foods and merchandise. "Little India" for example is best known for its traditional "South Indian" buffets. The Kamong Glam features the arts and crafts of the Muslim Malay group's Arabic origins.
Due to the wide variety of people in Singapore, their cuisine takes on ingredients and styles from around the world and blends them into new and unique forms. A primarily Chinese dish may be accented with components of Indian or even European fare to make dining a truly world class event.
With four official languages, the people of Singapore also recognize and celebrate the festivals and holidays of a number of religious traditions. As well as Chinese New Year, one can celebrate the Buddhist Vesak Day or the Christian Good Friday and Christmas. There are Muslin celebrations like Awal Muharam (the birthday of Muhammad) and the aboriginal Tamil holidays like Deepavali. Each faith's holidays are recognized by the entire population.
While not a world power on the Soccer field yet, Singapore features a ten team league which has begun to make its presence felt in the Asian Sporting World. Singapore has begun its own collage
industry movie industry as well. Creative writing and literature are one of Singapore's highlights. Embracing such varied cultures, the writing industry holds to a high standard of work. Being known for its educational priorities and universities, association with these establishments helps qualify one as a world class creative artist.
