All About Spain Holiday Foods

There is a lot to know when traveling to another country and this is no different when traveling to Spain. It is important and fun to learn a little bit about different Spain holiday foods so that you can make the best out of your time in the area. There are so many foods that are traditionally eaten there on holidays, just like so many people in the United States eat turkey and stuffing on Thanksgiving. By learning a little bit about their traditions, you will be better at taking part in their customs and therefore will be able to leave with a true understanding of what Spain is all about.

To start with, if traveling to Codobade in Galicia during the month of June, it is wise to know that this is the time of the cheese festival. Celebration of the San Gregorio de Corredoira's cheese takes place during this month. And on All Saints' Day, panellets are eaten on this day, which is in the fall. Panellets are almond cakes that are small in size. Also, during the Holy Week for Easter, La Mona is a cake that is made in many homes throughout the land. Some other interesting Spain holiday foods are that of panellets which are specific cookies that are eaten on All Saints' Day in the area of Catalonia.

Christmas Foods

Just like throughout the rest of the year, there are special Spain holiday foods that are traditionally prepared and eaten on the Christmas holiday. A favorite among many is that of the Pastel de Navidad, or Christmas nut cups which is composed of eggs, sugar, salt, butter, walnuts, vanilla, raisins and of course, pie shells. Another favorite among the different Spain holiday foods is that of the Chocolate a la Espanola, which is simply a hot chocolate done in a Spanish style.

And as for the main course for Christmas when thinking of Spain holiday foods, it will really depend on the region that you are in. For example, in Castilla Leon, Madrid, and Castilla la Mancha it is common to have suckling pig or roast lamb. While in Andalucia you will typically find turkey or duck being served. And in many of the different regions, but mostly those on the coast, you will find a nice variety of crab, fish, shrimp, lobster, and other things from the sea.
