Make sure you are not in a library or anywhere that you will annoy people but make sure that every once in a while you read out loud so you can hear yourself read. Believe it or not there are words and phrases that you say every day, or that you have heard used, that you may have never seen on paper before. It sounds odd but it is true and if you read out loud and you come across a word or phrase that looks odd, if you say it out loud you just may recognize it.
Reading comprehension is a skill that is developed over time but once you start to implement better reading skills you will notice that your comprehension skills increase greatly.
