Speed reading test? Well this shouldn't take long at all, right? It is just a speed reading test. Ok you got me. A speed reading test really should not take that long but what are the parameters of a test like that? More important than just speed alone is the combination of comprehension and speed that make up the scoring of a speed reading test. But a good test that you can put your speed reading skills through is out in the real world where your ability to speed read can be used for the purpose of freaking out every one you come in contact with. It is fun and educational!
Let's say that you are getting ready to sign a mortgage and the mortgage banker hands you the pile of forms and gives his smug speech about taking some time for you to read and comprehend the documents. As he is speaking you are putting your speed reading to the test by going through the documents and actually reading them while he is speaking. As he gets up to leave to go grab coffee while he thinks you will be reading the documents you announce that you are done reading and you have questions. Now he can't get his coffee and he fears your obvious superior intellect because you read through those documents so fast. The mortgage banker is sweating from fear of you and your speed reading test has paid off.
It Isn't You, It's Me
Ok but speed reading isn't just about freaking out bankers although that was pretty sweet. Speed reading is about gathering more information than a regular reading person can gather but with the regular reader's comprehension level. For every one book they read you should be able to read three or more. Putting your speed reading to the test by gathering information on a topic that interests you is the entire point of speed reading. When you can learn more in a shorter period of time your intellect will increase and if you really do your speed reading right your comprehension level will be higher than the regular reader's level.
Speed reading can help you get ahead in life and in business. It can help you prepare better for school or prepare more information for that important presentation you have to give that your entire career depends on. For all of the good things that speed reading can do, speed reading can still not help you to stay awake for meetings. Even though everyone knows that staying awake for important meetings could potentially be more important than reading really fast.
