Getting To Know National Car Rental
Everyone knows that there is strength in numbers. This is the premise behind National Car Rental. National Car Rental started as a collection of independent car rental shops that had figured out the age-old business adage that you can do more good as a group than you ever could on your own. The idea caught on quickly, and soon the idea of National Car Rental had gone from a decent sized group to an enormous group in only a few years. The story of National Car Rental is unique because there is no one person to point to and no one defining moment when a single entity thought of and created the company. The company has always been a collective of companies and owes its existence to the idea that a company united is much stronger than companies divided.
National Car Rental started in 1947 when a group of 24 independent car rental companies, none of which affiliated with or owned by any larger chain organization, understood that in order to survive and grow they would need to become a network that could offer customers service throughout the country. So with 800 vehicles and 60 locations among them, they decided to start a national car network. It took a little while to click, but soon other independent rental companies were joining in. They decided to establish a corporation to work under as a unified entity, so in 1959 National Car Rental was born.
Leading The Way
National Car Rental likes to call itself the first to do many things, and in reality the company was one of the first companies to offer many of the car rental programs and services we take for granted today. In 1954, National Car Rental was one of the first companies to introduce the one way rental, which meant that customers could rent a car in one town and then drop it off at another National location in a different town. This was new and customers loved it. In 1966, National Car Rental was one of the first companies to use a computer to do its daily reservation business by introducing the Telemax computer system. It was innovations such as this that kept proving that a company divided is stronger than any individual.
Today reaches out to not only the airport traveler but the leisure traveler as well. They are a large company that gets bigger every year and they continue to lead the way in advances in the car rental industry.
