Some Information On Enterprise Car Rental
Everyone has seen the Enterprise Car Rental commercials on television where they proudly proclaim that they will pick you up and help you with your rental. It may seem like a novel marketing idea, but it is all part and parcel of how Enterprise Car Rental has always done business. Enterprise Car Rental has grown and been successful solely by listening to its customers and providing the customers with what they want.
They have also grown by avoiding direct competition with the other car rental companies. How did they do this? Enterprise Car Rental took years before they even went near an airport. They built their business on the idea that hometown people need to rent cars just as much as travelers do, and it turns out they were right.
Company Beginnings
Enterprise Car Rental was started as Executive Leasing Company out of St. Louis, Missouri by a man named Jack Taylor. Originally, it was a leasing company as Jack Taylor figured people would be as interested in leasing cars as they were with buying them. Jack Taylor was right but many of his customers were telling him that they loved the leasing idea, but they still needed to rent a car while their cars were in the shop being repaired. After listening to his customers, Jack Taylor started the Executive Car Rental company as part of his Executive Car Leasing company in 1962. As with any successful business, Executive Car Rental grew, and soon Jack Taylor was looking to expand outside of St. Louis.
Where They Got Their Name
In 1969 Jack Taylor decided that it is time to expand out of St. Louis. But the name Executive was a very popular name in the car business, so Jack decided to name his business after the aircraft carrier he served on in World War II. To this point, Enterprise Car Rental has not even considered locations at airports as they have decided to let the rest of the rental car companies fight it out at the airports and he will bring his brand of hometown service to where people live and work and give everyone that has a car in the shop a rental car to drive. The idea caught on very quickly.
In 1974, an innovative Enterprise Car Rental branch manager in Orlando, Florida developed the idea of picking customers up and helping them get on their way quicker with a rental. It is the revolutionary idea that helped to make Enterprise Car Rental a success in towns all over the country and the company is still growing in areas where there are no airports.
