Anti-Cellulite Cream

While the formation of cellulite is a natural and unavoidable aspect of the physical operation of the body, there has been an entire cosmetics industry developed around it. Hundreds of millions of dollars a year are spent on products to try and reduce the cellulite that forms under the skin. Regrettably, there really is no "cure" for cellulite. What treatments there are will only mask the effect somewhat. Of the most popular of these products are Anti-Cellulite Creams.

The primary active ingredient in just about every anti-cellulite cream is caffeine. By rubbing caffeine laden cream into the skin the stimulant will expand the capillaries of the blood vessels and aid blood flow through the area. It will also work as a diuretic which will flush moisture from the skin where it is applied. As a consequence of this, the skin will take on a smoother appearance for a short while.

Another of the commonest active ingredients in anti-cellulite cream is retinol. This substance purportedly will penetrate the skin and exfoliate it. It has been claimed that retinol increases collagen production in the area to thicken the skin and hide the "dimples" that cellulite buildup causes.

Some topical anti-cellulite creams use dimethylaminoethanol (DMAE) which, while occurring naturally in fish, is used in its synthetic form to change the structure of the skin. What it does, however, is stop the skin cells from growing and many of them die. This results in the secondary problem of having dry, patchy skin left in place of the cellulite dimples.

Cellulite development is caused more by age and genetic makeup than by over eating or eating the wrong foods. Everyone gets cellulite formation although it shows more prominently on women. A subtle change in one's wardrobe will be as effective in masking cellulite "problem" areas as any anti-cellulite cream you may put on yourself.
