Different Ways Of Cooking Pumpkin Seeds
Pumpkin seeds are hulled from the pumpkin and can be cooked to be served as s snack. These are rich in zinc, magnesium, potassium and necessary fatty acids for a healthy snack. Cooking pumpkin seeds does not take away much of the vitamins and minerals that it has because these are enclosed in the pumpkin seed case. Some individuals eat the pumpkin seeds case and these are a good source of fiber.
Roasted or Toasted Pumpkin Seeds
Cooking pumpkin seeds may be limited to just roasting or toasting but there are still many different recipes that ensure they can be enjoyed in several different ways. Some people just clean the seeds from the stringy pumpkin and pop them into the oven placing them in a pan to ensure that they cook separately from each other.
Other people soak them in salty water and bring the water to a boil to make the seeds salty before they are drained and placed in a baking pan. Cooking pumpkin seeds can usually take up to around 20 minutes or until such time when the pumpkin seeds are beautifully browned.
Cooking pumpkin seeds need not be limited to salt, you can add other spices that you wish and sprinkle these on the seeds before you cook them. Cooking pumpkin seeds can also be adventurous to an extent where you can experiment with the spices that you like. You can immerse the seeds in water which is already filled with the spice of your choice or you can sprinkle the spice on top before cooking pumpkin seeds.
Some popular choices of spices to be added when cooking pumpkin seeds are garlic powder, cayenne powder, Cajun seasoning, salt and pepper etc. Other spices that can be added when cooking pumpkin seeds are curry powder and even tea for flavoring.
Another way of cooking pumpkin seeds is to liberally coat them with butter and a dash of salt before you place them in the oven for roasting. Place the seeds in a single layer in a baking pan and roast for about 45 minutes at around 300 degrees Fahrenheit or 150 degrees Celsius.
Before cooking pumpkin seeds, it is best to wash them in water or better to boil them to ensure that they are cleaned well enough for human consumption. You can also eat the pumpkin seeds without husking the seeds. This can give them a crunchy texture. Peeling them can also be very time consuming.
