Dos and Don'ts of Mascara
Mascara is one of the essential make up components that experts believe complete the look. Even if you don't have time for anything else, a good lipstick and mascara can make the difference between looking tired and groggy as opposed to being fresh and vibrant, ready to face the day.
However, even though mascara is an important element of any makeup routine, it is a little tricky. People can wear it the wrong way making their eye lashes look fake or clumpy. Here are some simple dos and don'ts to help you get the best look.
Dos
Do buy good quality products. Ask friends and family members for recommendations. Good make up products need not be the priciest, as drug store brands can work just as well provided you apply them correctly.
Do buy a color that complements your hair color. If you have dark hair, black mascara is the way to go. However if you are blonde, brown or grey mascara is usually a more natural bet.
Do learn how to apply mascara from a professional, by watching a makeup how-to video online or from a fashion forward friend. Even if you don't buy any of the pricey products at the department store counters, you can always sit in that high chair to get yourself primped up and learn a few tricks in the process.
Do clean you wand with petroleum jelly on a cotton swab so that it is not clumpy.
Do curl your eyelashes or complete any other eye makeup before applying mascara. Mixing up the steps can ruin the look as everything else can get smudged.
Don'ts
Don't use the same mascara for a very long time; it can thicken, become clumpy, expire and lead to the spreading of bacteria.
Don't forget your lower lashes to give a more finished look. However, you can skip this step for daytime use if you feel it becomes too visible - save it for late night parties.
Don't blink too much while applying mascara as it can spread and become tedious to clean up.
Don't use waterproof varieties all the time, it can harm the lashes. For daily wear, try water-soluble product instead.
Don't apply moisturizer on the lashes as mascara will slip off because of the moisture and not give you the desired effect.
Remember to always keep mascara in your purse for a quick touch up to the ends of your lashes; not only will your eyes look brighter and more attractive; you'll get an instant confidence boost as well!
