Children in Day Care Do Pretty Well in Life

Contrary to popular opinion that the poor children in day care are just left in the wilderness by their money-seeking parents, children in day care are actually faring better than their stay home peers in some ways.

While it is not black and white as far as who does better in life and whether your child care choices even do matter that much in the long run, but many studies have shown that children in day care are not that deprived after all.

Social Skills

As compared to live-in nannies or babysitters, some times children in day care have more of a chance to interact with their age group. They learn how to take turns, share, listen to rules and do things in a group setting like reading time, snack time and circle time. These are the very concepts that are built upon in preschool and later years.

In contrast, children who are always with a one-on-one baby sitter may get more personalized attention but that is only if the caregivers are good at their job. Otherwise as they are not being watched while they care for your child, they might be subtly mishandling or abusing the child as in letting him watch television all day, not helping him with any constructive activity that he may be interested in because that requires more effort than just being a couch potato.

In comparison, children in day care are being watched by several teachers and even if one if sick or not having a particularly good day, there are others who can fill in. Plus parents are always dropping in to pick and drop heir children at different times and hence there is a sense of accountability that they are under a constant watch.

Children in day care are also known to fare better as far as social relationships are concerned because they see people of all different ethnicities from a young age and hence are not in their own bubble of where they see people only their own color or speaking only their language

Professionals

Therefore if you have deiced you need to or want to work, do not rule out that your child or children can be in day care as if you choose carefully, it may not be that bad an option after all. You may even get a report of what the child did, who his friends are and what he needs to work on from more competent professional than a baby sitter who may love children but does not have the training necessary in some fields.
