How to Approach a Day Care Franchise to Sell Something
Day care franchises are a good place to do some direct selling and fundraising because very few get government grants and most are there to make some money so they always welcome free products any way they can get them. Plus they have a captive audience of moms and dads who come day in day out to pick and drop their children.
Word of Mouth
If you are a consultant for a firm that sells products that can be of interest to children such as books or toys, then approaching a day care franchise is a great idea. The advantage of a day care franchise over an independently owned day care center is that when more than one establishment is connected in this way, word gets around faster. What may wok in one center can easily be replicated in another. If location X day care earns $500 in free toys and books by having a holiday bazaar with booths, location Y day care will want to do the same. At times, regional directors are responsible for more than one location and hence you do not have to sell your idea again and again.
Paper Chain
The only disadvantage with approaching a day care franchise is that there may be more rules and regulations as opposed to a mom and pop kind of setting there may be a regional office and a national headquarters from where day care franchise directors need to get permission. Some times the process is very straightforward and at other times it can require quite a bit of paperwork and persistence.
However, it does pay off in the end because you get parents coming to your stall and usually people who do send their children to a day care franchise are dual income families where both parents are working and usually have a little more disposable income. Plus, they feel a little guilty about sending their children to day care and are more prone to buying them things and spending some time at the end of the day with them as opposed to stay home parents who are spending one on one time with the children anyways
Show Your Product
Always make an appointment to go show the day care franchise director your products. Explaining them verbally never makes an impact. Always explain how the day care franchise can earn free products based on the dollar amount of sales. Help them make flyers and send notes home with the children so that parents have enough notice of the event. See if you can take online orders or paper orders from parents who can not make it to the fair.
