Criteria for Choosing Day Care Toys

If you are caring for children in a commercial establishment or in you home, you will definitely need some good day care toys to keep them busy. Parents would not be pleased to find out tat they are paying you to perch their child in front of a DVD and they definitely do not want their child to be bored or cranky.

There are a myriad of options when it comes to day care toys and the sky is the limit. However keep these few factors in mind and you should be well on your way to choosing quality products

Age Appropriate

You have to factor in the ages of the children who come to you for child care. If there is a mix of very little and slightly older children, you HAVE to make sure that you do not have day care toys that are only for the 3+ age group. It is impossible to keep your eye on a dozen children every moment of the time they are with you so you have to make sure that the day care toys you have do not contain small parts that can be choking hazards for the little ones under your care.

Quality vs. Price

Do not skimp on quality of day care toys by choosing the cheapest ones to save you money. There has been so much hype about toys being recalled because of lead paint and other concerns so always make sure the day care toys are not on a recall list and buy fewer but better quality toys that can last a longer time.

Pieces

Avoid buying day care toys with too many pieces as it is inevitable with the number of children coming and going that some may get lost. Puzzles are not any fun to make when you can not see the final picture and similarly some toys do not work if they do not have all the required pieces. Also, avoid day care toys which require batteries as they can get worn out pretty easily and it can cost a lot of money and time to always have to replace them.

Make Believe

Invest in a few bigger kind of day care toys such as the Little Tikes kitchen or workbench where more than one child can play at a time otherwise, you will always have to be sorting out sharing issue when all the children want the same toy. Plus, these pretend toys teach children a lot about make believe cooking, construction and the like.
