How to Deal with Menopause Mood Swings
Menopause brings about a lot of different symptoms in women, one of which is even shared with friends and loved ones; mood swings. This menopause symptom can overrule many women's lives for a period of time where it can be hard for friends and loved ones to deal with. In fact, the mood swings associated with menopause can literally tear a family apart. This is why it's important to understand different ways that bad mood swings can be dealt with, as to keep them under control.
Keep Your Feelings in Check
This may seem like something too hard to do when dealing with menopause mood swings, but one of the easiest ways to do it is to cut yourself some slack. Remind yourself that menopause is a natural cycle you are going through, and that things in life will need to be adjusted to accommodate it.
When you feel that you may over react to a situation or you're just feeling grumpy, it may be a good idea to simmer down by yourself whether it be reading a book in the backyard or taking a scenic drive through town. Don't put more stress on yourself because things may need to get done around the house, simply employ a family member to pick up the slack.
Ice Packs
Mood swings due to menopause tend to come into full gear during hot flashes and other periods of not being comfortable. Because of this, keeping soft ice packs that are easy to rest on your shoulders is a good way to stay comfortable and control hot flashes and mood swings that can be derived from the hot flashes.
Applying an ice pack to your neck, shoulders or back is also a good way to relax and take some tension away. Try placing one over your shoulders while enjoying a nice cup of ice tea and watching your favorite television show or reading a good book.
Wear Comfortable Clothes
To keep yourself as comfortable as possible, avoid having to wear dresses, slacks, sports coats and other work or nightlife clothing as much as possible. If you stay in clothes that make you comfortable, it's easier to stay stress free and control the mood swings that come on due to menopause. Slippers or sandals, sweat pants or stretch pants and sweatshirts or t-shirts are all great options for staying around the house and running errands.
