Scooters for handicapped and older people or people who have trouble getting around on there own are very popular today, so you can find numerous scooter stores that offer only this type of scooter. These kinds of scooters are not the kind that are drivable on the road, in fact they move slowly, usually about walking speed, and have 3 or 4 wheels with a big seat and a basket in front to hold groceries or what have you.

You'll find that most are electric, and some can be plugged into a power source overnight in order to regain energy for the next day's use. You won't have to worry about gas or insurance or other costly investments when it comes to owning a scooter like this, and you can usually find reasonable prices for new and used models. Broken bones, back problems and childhood mobility problems are such a few.

Scooters meant to travel on roads are the other major kind of scooter available at stores in the marketplace today. These scooters usually get up to about 35 miles per hour, so they are not suitable for freeways and highways. However, they are useful for rural areas and towns when it comes to single people or teenagers getting around.

If you opt for a moped instead of a scooter at the store, you won't even need a license to drive it in many states. This is because the horsepower in a moped is half as much as that of a scooter, making it possible to go no faster than 30 miles per hour. This means young teens and people who cannot get driver's licenses can have a means to get around! You can even find "green" mopeds and scooters that offer the opportunity to own transportation without the hassles of gas. Just plug it in at night, and drive up to a total of 30 miles the next day. Needless to say, moped and scooter stores can be fun just to browse, and they can be found in most major cities as well as online.
