The History Of The Kitchen Aid Brand

The Kitchen Aid brand began its life as a brand name for an electric stand mixer that was manufactured by Hobart Manufacturing Company in the 1900's. The legend of the Kitchen Aid name surrounds an event that occurred when a wife of one of the executives brought the mixer home his wife commented that she didn't care what they called it was the "best kitchen aid" she had ever seen, thus the name was born.

The Kichen Aid stand mixer was the most popular brand during the 1920's and 1930's. Most of these products, like others during this time, were sold door to door or there were even Kitchen Aid parties where the products were demonstrated. The line advanced, with more mixer appliances being added to the line.

The Hobart Company, realizing just how important kitchen products were, bought out another company, the Crescent Company that was manufacturing dishwashers. The first dishwasher was introduced at the Worlds Fair in 1880 by Josephine Cochrane, who then went on to found the Crescent Company. This new innovative appliance was quickly a hit and homeowners began enjoying the benefits of having their dishes washed by a machine.

As the company grew, they built a solid reputation that other companies knew would be beneficial. The Whirlpool Company in 1985 approached Hobart Company to propose a merger. The companies each came with good and long standing reputations, together they began creating larger home appliances such as stoves and refrigerators. In 1987 they introduced their first line and have never looked back.

The line continued to expand over the decades adding additional appliance as they grew. Today, Kitchen Aid is one of the most well known product lines for all appliances in the home, including stoves, refrigerators and even counter top products like mixers.
