Why You Should Learn Spanish Numbers

Last season I was watching a football game with a friend of mine right around Halloween. One of the star wide receivers for the Cincinnati Bengals came out and instead of his name on the back of his jersey he had the words "Ocho Cinco" on there instead. My knowledge of Spanish numbers was enough to know that Ocho Cinco stands for the 8 and the 5 that make up his jersey number of 85 but my friend didn't understand and asked me what in the world Ocho Cinco meant I told him it was Spanish for the 8 and the 5 that make up his number.

It took while to explain that Ocho Cinco did not mean 85 together as that was a completely different set of Spanish words. Then it occurred to me how important it is to learn Spanish numbers so that you do not make the same grammatical error that this star football receiver made and confuse an entire population of Americans into thinking that Ocho means 80 when it really only means 8. There are a lot of advantages when you learn Spanish numbers that go beyond understanding the joke of a professional American football player.

Many of the documents that we see as shipping notices are in Spanish and English and if you buy something from a Spanish company it is probably a good idea to be able to learn Spanish numbers well enough to be able to communicate quantities to them over the phone so your order does not get messed up. If you like Mexican food then you need to learn Spanish numbers so you can place your order as many of the new Mexican restaurants popping up do not speak any English at all. As the United States shifts more towards a growing Spanish population it would probably be in your best interest to learn Spanish numbers just to be able to communicate.

Getting Around Town

It always helps to speak to people in their native tongue and if you live or work in a large city there is a good chance that you will start coming across more Spanish speaking service workers like cab drivers and train conductors. Some of them will speak English and some will not but to cover yourself you can at least learn Spanish numbers so you can make sure that you get to where you are needing to go without any adventure due to a break down in communication.

Learning any part of Spanish will be helpful as the Spanish population in the United States continues to grow. Good communication is the basis for a good society.
