An easy way to illustrate this example is to picture a row with eight of the nine blocks filled in. Since the numbers one through nine can only be used once in each row and each column, you can look at the row to know which number is missing. You can apply this technique on unfinished puzzles with more blank squares as well. It just takes a keen eye to notice where numbers can and cannot go.
Only Square Rule
The next sudoku tip involves a similar concept as the only choice rule. This rule applies many times when you are given a choice between two numbers for one square. This is where that keen eye will come into play. If you have two number left to fill in on one box, and either number looks like it could fit, check all of the corresponding rows and columns. The numbers in these rows and columns may determine what can and cannot go in which box. For these sudoku tips to work, you must practice and do not get discouraged when you make a mistake. If you make a mistake, just erase and move on.
Practice, Practice, Practice
