What is a Skin Wart?

Many people are not aware of it, but there are actually a few different types of warts that a person can develop. Warts tend to be more common in children than in adults, but people of any age can get warts.

Skin Wart

One of the most common types of wart is the skin wart. These are just what they sound like - warts that develop on various areas of the skin. Warts are a type of infection caused by viruses in the human papillomarvirus family. There are more than 100 different types of this virus, some which cause warts to develop and some which don't.

Warts can develop on all different areas of the body, so you may find a skin wart on the inside of your mouth, on your genitals, your hand, leg, or face. It is possible to pass a skin wart on to another person, which is why it is so important to keep your hands washed and the area with the skin wart away from other people.

In regards to how to get rid of one of these warts, you should know that a lot of the time they will just disappear and go away on their own. In many other cases however, the warts will stay and become bothersome. They may end up getting very large in size, or start bleeding, and this is when you really need to step forward and get treatment for your wart.

Treatment

There are a few different methods that can be used to treat a skin wart. One is to apply salicylic acid. This will help because the acid sinks in deeper and deeper into the wart and will destroy the bacteria in the warts. Another option is to go with the duct tape treatment. To do this you simply cover your wart with duct tape, because this ends up irritating the wart and the skin around it which results in the skin attacking it and getting rid of the warts.

Your doctor may suggest that you use cantharidin on your skin warts, but this is typically only used in more serious cases. With this treatment the cantharidin is basically painted onto any warts that you have, and although most pain is not felt immediately, people will tend to experience a burning sensation on the area of and around the warts.

The important thing is that you remember that no matter how serious your warts, there are effective treatments available which can help you to get rid of them.
