If you make a lot of long distance calls and can't afford the bills that pile up then it might be time to consider buying long distance routers. This allows you an easy way to communicate at a very low price. Much cheaper than an analog phone and with a relatively easy to use installation. All you need is a good broadband connection.

Long distance routers may seem like a scary proposition for those of us who are not tech savvy but they really are quite easy to use. They don't require a long and difficult installation process. There are things however that you need to look out for when buying long distance routers.

Phone Companies

When buying long distance routers you need to be careful that you are not tied down to any particular phone company. This can get tricky if you decide that the rates offered are not what you want. If you decide to switch companies you will probably have to buy a new long distance router. So look around carefully at what is available and shop carefully.

You want long distance routers that will allow you to use any company. Beware of cheap routers, most of these are cheap because they are locked to a specific company and you will pay for it later. Quite literally, so always read the fine print and ask plenty of questions. By shopping around you can save a lot more money with a good phone plan.

Voice Quality

As with any product that deals with phone conversations you want to make sure that you have good voice quality. Long distance routers that don't offer this quality should be put aside immediately. It may be cheaper but it's not worth it. You may very well end up so frustrated with your new gadget that you decide to go back to regular phone calls. Or worse yet go out any buy a new router. So pick a good one the first time around.

Power Outlets

If you are only planning to use your long distance routers at home then this is no problem for you. If on the other hand you travel quite a bit and this is the main reason you purchased it then make sure you can use it overseas. Meaning that the power supply can adapt to overseas power outlets. Otherwise you will have to bring an adaptor with you. Although the problem is easily solved it is a little annoying.
