The Unsurpassed Blu Ray Dual Layer Capacity
Technology is constantly innovating; you can observe the results of the constant innovation of technology just by comparing the way we used to live before and our way of live now. The same goes for the optical disc format industry. One of the latest innovations in the optical disc format is the Blu Ray technology. The Blu Ray technology is primarily designed to replace the standard DVD format.
A Blu Ray disc is a "high density" optical disc (similar to VCD and DVD discs). What differentiates the Blu Ray disc from other types of optical disc format is that a Blu Ray disc is capable of storing large capacity digital media and "High Definition" videos. A single layer Blu Ray disc is capable of storing 25 gigabytes of data while the Blu Ray dual layer capacity has a whooping 50 gigabytes of data.
The reason why the Blu Ray dual layer capacity is able to store huge amount of data is because it utilizes a "blue-violet" laser in reading and writing data (other optical disc formats use red colored laser). Blu Ray dual layer capacity is capable of storing 50 gigabytes (almost six times more than that of a standard dual layer DVD) because the blue-violet laser that it utilizes has much shorter wavelength compared to other optical disc formats. That is also the reason why its developers call this optical disc format "Blu Ray".
The huge Blu Ray dual layer capacity is the result of precise data recording of the shorter wavelength. And for that reason, the Blu Ray dual layer capacity has more data stored on its surface. More storage capacity means more in-depth clarity and "High Definition" experience. The huge Blu Ray dual layer capacity is the largest in the optical disc format these days. As of now, no other format has surpassed the Blu Ray dual layer capacity.
The developers of Blu Ray disc technology is constantly doing works in further enhancing the storage capacity of the Blu Ray disc. They are currently working on developing a "quad-layer" Blu Ray disc that is capable of storing 100 gigabytes of data. Furthermore, one of the developers of the Blu Ray disc technology announced that they are working on an experimental Blu Ray disc that is capable of storing 200 gigabytes of data.
That just proves that technology is constantly innovating. That is because Man is continuously developing in order to have a more efficient ways.
