The Whooping Blu Ray Single Layer Capacity

As we all know, it is common knowledge that technology is constantly innovating. This applies to all of the things that are constantly in use these days. The same goes in the field of digital storage and digital media technology. The latest innovation in that particular field is "Blu Ray".

Blu Ray is not a biological entity that resides in the ocean; rather it is the latest in the digital storage and digital media technology. The Blu Ray disc is the product of various media and electronic product manufacturers collectively known as the "Blu Ray Disc Association". The Blu Ray single layer capacity has more storage capacity than any other types of digital media storage products in the market today.

The Blu Ray single layer capacity is a type of "high density" optical disc that can also store "high definition" videos. It uses a "blue-violet" laser beam to read and write digital data and digital media. The Blu Ray single layer capacity is store up to 25 gigabytes of data, of which is five times more than that of a single layer DVD disc. The Blu Ray single layer capacity can store up to 135 minutes or 2 hours and 15 minutes of high definition video utilizing "MPEG-2" format with 2 hours of extra space for "standard definition" quality. The dual layer of Blu Ray disc doubles the capacity that of the Blu Ray single layer disc.

The closest optical storage device to compete of the storage capability of the Blu Ray single layer capacity is the "HD-DVD". However, the storage capacity of a single layer "HD-DVD" is only 15 gigabytes while "DVD" only has a 4.5 gigabyte storage capacity. Other than that, the Blu Ray disc is more durable and less susceptible to scratches than that of a standard digital storage device because of certain methods used by its manufacturers in making a Blu Ray disc.

The manufacturers of Blu Ray disc are continuously doing research to make the Blu Ray technology more appealing to the consumers. Manufacturers have announced that they are doing research so that the Blu Ray can store up to 200 gigabytes; although such disc may not function on digital media players that are used these days.

"Stand-alone" Blu Ray players and software-base programs are used to fully enjoy the benefits of Blu Ray discs. In order to play Blu Ray videos, the video player must have certain codecs such as "MPEG-2", "VC-1" and AVC or MPEG-4 codec.
