When you get ready to go on a trip whether traveling by plane, train or boat it pays to find unique ways to identify you're your luggage to making finding them at your destination faster and easier. Additionally, with so many people having the same size, style and color suitcase, unique markings can also make it less likely that someone else will pick up your bag and take it home with them. Avoid Things That Can Catch On Conveyor Belts
Commercial transport companies often use conveyor belts to move luggage through various parts of its travel to the plane, train or boat and using brightly colored suitcase belts as ways to identify you're your luggage is often not advisable as they can get caught on the conveyors and slow down the whole transfer process. There is also no guarantee that a baggage handler is not going to undo the belt, to loosen it from the conveyor, and your means of recognition along with it.
Even with bright ribbons on the handle there is no way to insure that ribbon will still be in place when you reach your destination. If the ribbon gets caught along the way and is ripped off, you are back where you started without the ways to identify you're your luggage. Try to avoid painting your initials in fluorescent pain on the side of your bag. It may be one of the most positive ways to identify you're your luggage, but it will also ruin your bag and may not look as nice as you want it to look in the middle of a crowded baggage claim area.
