What Items Can You Carry In Your Business Travel Luggage?

Whether you're an experienced business traveler or taking your very first business trip, you should be aware that the Transportation Security Administration has recently changed the regulations regarding what you can carry on and what you can check.

A great change for the business traveler has recently been made at most major airport security checkpoints: the business traveler and his luggage now has a special designated line when he enters the checkpoint area. You should call your local airport and get additional information, as this could mean the difference between making and missing a flight.

Business Travel Luggage - Electronic Devices

Because you are a business traveler, and you have a special new line at security checkpoints, make sure you have your laptop computer out of its case and in a bin by itself, before it rolls away on the conveyor. Business travelers carry more electronic gadgets than all the other passengers combined: camcorders, laptop computers, cell phones, GPS units, pagers, personal data assistants, and cameras. All of these items can either be carried on board or checked in your business travel luggage.

A special note about camera equipment: The checked baggage X-ray screening equipment can damage undeveloped film in a camera. Because of this, you should put the undeveloped film in your carry-on baggage and ask the screener at the checkpoint to make a hand inspection.

Business Travel Luggage - Sporting Goods

This generation is very conscious about their diet and how much exercise they get on a daily basis, even if they are far away from home on a business trip. Fortunately for the business traveler, a lot of today's business is conducted on a golf course or a tennis court.

The following items cannot be put in your carry-on business travel luggage, but must be put in your checked luggage: baseball bats, bow and arrows, golf clubs, hockey sticks, lacrosse sticks, pool cues, ski poles, and spear guns. Baseballs, basketballs, footballs, soccer balls, and golf balls and can be brought with you through security checkpoint.

Business Travel Luggage - Personal Items

Business travelers carry more personal items with them than all the other travelers combined, because they are away from home for longer stretches of time than the vacation traveler.

If they are in containers no larger than 3 oz., you may carry on or check the following personal items: aerosol bottles and cans, creams and lotions, bubble bath balls, mosquito sprays and repellents, cigar cutters, corkscrews, cuticle cutters, eye drops, eyelash curlers, gel-filled bras, knitting and crochet needles, lip gels, spray perfumes and colognes, mouthwash, nail files, scissors, and tweezers.
