Martial Sports: More than Just Sports
These days one just can't deny the fact that the dangers of the world have indeed gone higher. Arming oneself with self defense options, which martial sports are, stands to be one way of rising up against the dangerous times we all now live in. Martial sports stand to be simply more than just sports, as Martial Sports strongly stand as self defense options against the dangers which lurk in society's alleyways and backroads.
Basically, the roots of Martial Sports are that of Martial Arts, which is basically a system of codified traditions, techniques and practices geared for physical combat. Martial Arts, along with Martial Sports, takes its name from the Roman Greek god of war; Mars. Armed or unarmed, Martial Arts is basically developed for physical combat against or in defense, and comes in various classes, each unique to its own origins. Martial Sports is basically the competitive class of Martial Arts, which is practiced for its sports value. Marital Arts, which Martial Sports is a class of, is often practiced primarily for its self defense and fitness value. Martial arts is also often practiced for its self-cultivation/meditation discipline, character development, and self confidence boosting results. Martial sports simply stand to be the practice of Martial Arts for the sport value in it.
Generally speaking, the base goal of all martial arts is that to be able to physically defeat a person, or defend oneself against a would-be assailant, without the use of weapons. Though certain Martial Arts and Martial Sports involve weapons, the most basic of Martial Arts and Martial Sports is unarmed combat, requiring Martial Arts and Martial sports practitioners to condition their bodies to stand to the rigors of physical training. All Martial Arts and Martial Sport classes are defined by a systemized structure of instruction and discipline. The kata, which is quite common in Asian Martial Arts and Martial Sport styles, is one of the most common methods of training in martial arts. At times, a kata could be done in pairs or with partner or partners, but is mostly routine sets designed to be performed alone.
Martial Sports stand to be the more competitive of Martial Arts, giving more focus on the sport of Martial Arts, rather than the self-defense value. But this doesn't mean that Martial Sport practitioners aren't capable of defending themselves in self defense ideal situations. Fact of the matter is, Martial Sport practitioners would have no problems in defending themselves, as they are armed with the basic principles of unarmed and armed combat, powerful weapons against the evil elements of society today.
