Connecticut's Mystic Aquarium and Institute for Exploration

Located in Mystic, Connecticut, the aquarium and institution was opened in 1973. It is notable for having an intact male Steller Sea Lion, the largest sea lion. The aquatic mammal is only the largest member in the family of eared seal. Mystic Aquarium & Institute for Exploration is one of the four aquariums in the world to have kept this specie.

Mystic Aquarium and Institute for Exploration is a non-profit organization and Sea Research Foundation, Inc. division. Founded by a famous marine explorer, Robert Ballad, the aquarium features different underwater archaeological discoveries in addition to the beautiful and splendid aquariums settings. Robert Ballard is notable for the famous explorations of RMS Titanic, Black Sea and PT-109 shipwrecks. There are models of Ballard's explorations including maps and diagrams that can be found in Mystic Aquarium and Institute for Exploration.
