Fasting and Colon Cleansing: A Positive Combination?

Fasting and Colon Cleansing: A Positive Combination?

Colon cleansing has been effectively employed as a means in which people have corrected potential problems and dysfunctions in the way the colon operates. However, some individuals have used fasting and colon cleansing as a "one two punch" so as to drop weight quickly. Granted, weight is lost, but it isn't fat. Instead, water is mainly lost and this combination of fasting and colon cleansing deviates from the true purpose both of these actions are intended to perform.

Regarding Fasting and Colon Cleansing and the Metabolic Effect

There is something that must be seriously taken into consideration when it comes to fasting and colon cleansing and that is the effect that fasting will have on the body's metabolism. The body when denied food does not understand what fasting actually is. Instead, if the body is denied food intake it will translate the decrease in calories as starvation. When this occurs the body goes into starvation mode and the metabolism will start to drastically slow down so as to conserve stored fat. This can have a number of negative effects as such a reduction in calories can yield to the body eating muscle in order to preserve the stored fat. Also, when the metabolism is slowed down, then food intake is resumed much of the food will not be burned as it normally would. Instead, it will be converted to fat much quicker so as to save for the next "starvation" period. So, if a person is looking to lose weight through a combination of fasting and colon cleansing, the end result may not be what the person originally bargained for.

If weight loss is a person's primary concern, then it would be best for the person to seek a program of calorie reduction through the common module of diet and exercise. This will provide a safer platform for dropping weight as well as one that is more permanent. After all, if one drops weight due to fluid loss the weight will return as one increases fluid intake. In other words, all a person need to do is gain weight would be to drink water!

So, instead of using the combination of fasting and colon cleansing as a weight loss method, it would be far wiser to use this combo as a means of treating colon problems. This is a safer and more effective use of the process as well as what the process is properly intended.
