A Look at Unusual Engagement Rings
Comedian Norm Macdonald once quipped that he did not understand the practical application of an engagement ring. To him it seemed to make more sense to present something that had more use to it like an engagement stereo or something like that.
I suppose that makes sense but it got me to thinking about unusual engagement rings down through the years and maybe even some unusual wedding bands as well. For example, Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson tattooed their wedding bands to their fingers and God only knows what they used for an unusual engagement ring.
Sometimes the most unusual engagement rings are the ones that are handed down from generation to generation that were never meant to be used as an engagement ring but wound up that way anyways. I know of a couple who used the groom's great grandmother's pearl ring as an unusual engagement ring and they plan on passing it down to their kids as well. Maybe that was not so much an unusual engagement ring as it was just not such a traditional one. But there have been some unusual ones in the past.
I have seen mechanics create unusual engagement rings out of various auto parts and if the girl knows what she is getting into then that should be no problem. Musicians make unusual engagement rings out of musical instrument parts and so on. Whatever you feel like representing a feeling from the heart is fair game and that is exactly why I let my wife pick out her own engagement ring.
Sometimes unusual engagement rings are nice but if a girl is expecting the traditional diamond on a ring mount and you bust out an auto part fashioned into a ring then you may be in for the let down of your life. It would probably help to understand what the key components to any engagement rings are whether they are unusual engagement rings or not.
They Absolutely Are a Girl's Best Friend
Most times when women refer to getting an engagement ring they refer to it as waiting for the diamond. After they have received the engagement ring it will forever be referred to as the diamond or the rock on my finger. If you are planning on giving an engagement ring and it does not have a diamond on it then I would almost say do not bother. You know your girl better than anyone else and if you really think she would not miss a diamond on her engagement ring then that is your call but I would not count on it.
Engagement rings are best if they are traditional but they are most effective if she picks it out herself. Some girls like that and others like to be surprised with the ring and the question. Either way there better be a sparkling stone on that ring or you can expect problems.
