Designer Engagement Rings May Not Appeal To Everyone
The beauty and cost of designer engagement rings is largely in the opinion of the prospective bride and groom and while the name of the jewelry designer may be well known, the appearance of their creations may not match the taste of the couple. While the design is usually a personal preference, some of the designer engagement rings are without doubt considerably more appealing than many of the mass produced ones, but to some people the opposite is also true.
In most cases the desire to have designer engagement rings is a status symbol for the bride and groom as well as having a ring they know will not be duplicated. Many jewelry designers make their merchandise by hand, one at a time, and even if they closely resemble a previously constructed ring, no two designer engagement rings will ever be exactly the same, which provides the appeal for many couples.
In order for a designer's creations to be considered out of the ordinary typically involves their designing a ring for someone famous. Once the celebrity or other well-known individual is seen wearing designer engagement rings, the ring and its maker shoots to stardom and becomes known for their work. Without that stardom, even if their creations are exemplary, their lack of true fame will not boost the price of their merchandise.
Selling Designs For Mass Production
Many times, designers are unable to achieve the level of so-called stardom that puts their designs at the pinnacle of creations. The designer engagement rings they have created may then be sold to jewelry companies and mass produced making the otherwise unique designs available to a wide spectrum of the public. Should the designer later achieve a level of celebrity status, the designs sold and mass produced may still bear their name, but will not have the same value as those created on an individual basis.
Many large companies also produce their own designer engagement rings, such as Tiffany and de Beers, but the rings designed by individuals are usually made by the designer as well, increasing its value due to the rarity of the piece. There is one constant among designer engagement rings and that is they will be priced based on the notoriety of the designer. The more well known the designer, the higher price the ring commands.
Unfortunately, it is not always the design's beauty and style that determines the value of designer engagement rings, as much as it is the name alone.
