A Ruby Engagement Ring and Other Choices
Selecting the perfect engagement ring is a decision that has cost many a few sleepless nights. There seems to be no end in choices and it can feel like an overwhelming decision to make.
For many, the classic diamond engagement ring is the obvious choice. This is a classic style that will certainly be the right choice for many. However, there are other choices when it comes to engagement rings. Some other choices for engagement rings include sapphires, emeralds and the ruby engagement ring. All of these can make excellent and stylish engagement rings too.
The Sapphire, Emerald and Ruby Engagement Ring
Although the diamond is considered the standard in engagement rings, it has not always been the first choice. The sapphire was once considered the best choice for an engagement ring as it is a beautiful blue shade and it is thought that love is a gift from heaven. This was a popular thought during medieval times and most engagement rings were made with a sapphire as the center stone.
During this time period, the ruby engagement ring was also considered the most valuable engagement ring. A ruby engagement ring, during medieval time, symbolized true love because of the deep red of the stone. This was thought to equate to the heart and that the couple were bound together forever with the ruby engagement ring. In Victorian England, a snake with ruby eyes was used as a wedding band for many men. Again the symbol was the red of true love and the snake symbolized eternity. It also probably reminded the man about his commitment to be faithful to his wedding vows.
An emerald can also make a lovely engagement ring as it has the deep green hue that makes a sharp contrast with a gold band. Emeralds can also be set into the engagement band to enhance the color of other stones that may be showcased in the engagement ring.
Any stone can be used in an engagement ring, and some prefer the special look that can come with using a stone other than a diamond in their engagement ring. A ruby engagement ring can not only look splendid it also has been used as an engagement ring in the past, as has the sapphire.
Take some time to consider optional stones that can be used in engagement rings to make the engagement ring you select a personalized ring that signifies the love and commitment that you as a couple have for each other.
