LCD TV Monitor and the HD TV Technology

LCD TV monitor is one of the latest telecommunication and electronic products of the modern century. This is one of the devices that have gradually replaced the use of cathode ray tube televisions and monitors in home entertainment system and computer desktop.

LCD TV monitor uses the LCD technology. LCD is the abbreviation of liquid crystalline display which is described as a display device with thin, flat structure made up of monochrome pixels arranged in front of a reflector. The first LCD panel was made by T. Peter Brody in 1972 in the United States. Although the first application of LCD technology was patented by The Marconi Wireless Telegraph Company in 1936, the first-known discovery of liquid crystalline nature was made by the Friedrich Reinitzer.

LCD TV monitor has a rivalry with plasma TV display much more than with CRT. This is because both LCD and plasma display have flat panel features. They are deemed to be preferred in home entertainment system because they can occupy much lesser space than cathode ray tube televisions.

During the past few years, the plasma display panel dominated the large screen television technology market. LCD TV monitor could not compete with the plasma technology in size 40" or larger. Moreover, plasma TV was more preferred in terms of performance than LCD TV.

The notion that LCD TV monitor could not compete with plasma technology in terms of size and performance has rapidly declined. Constant innovation of the LCD technology has made 40" screen panel or more definitely possible. Major manufacturers of LCD TV monitor can be found in Japan and South Korea with Samsung and LG Phillips LCD as the leading LCD TV monitor providers in the market. Sharp Corporation of Japan has also had a market share in LCD technology.

40" to 45" LCD TV monitor were available in the market in 2004. At the year, Sharp announced its 65" panel.

Subsequently, other LCD TV monitor manufacturers followed in announcing and launching larger and better LCD panels. Samsung announced in 82" LCD TV monitor in 2005. LG Phillips, an independent company formed from the partnership of South Korea's LG and the Netherlands' Phillips, announced is successful produce of 100" LCD panels.

Sharp made another pride in manufacturing LCD panels during its launching of its AQUOS brand in Las Vegas. Sharp displayed in January 2007 a 108" LCD panel at CES in the entertainment capital.

LCD TV monitor and plasma TV nowadays are High-definition televisions. They are capable of broadcasting digital programs. Moreover, it is possible to connect LCD TV monitor to the CPU. Aside from watching programs from terrestrial system, users can LCD TV monitor as computer screen. Thus, it is possible to watch internet programs on a much larger screen.
