The Facts About Baby Snoring

When most people think about snoring, they think about health problems that could be causing the problem. And there is nothing worse to a parent of a new baby then to think that their little one may have a health problem. But baby snoring is most typically not something that the parents have to be overly concerned about, at least not in most cases. Baby snoring is a common thing and it really is not real snoring but simply sounds like it. Understanding the facts about baby snoring will help ease the minds of parents and will allow them to understand that their little one is just doing what most other babies do.

The thing to remember is that the bodies of babies are still immature and their nasal passages are narrow. Also, the passages are filled with all sorts of bubbly secretions, which is perfectly natural. So when the baby is sleeping and has air passing through their nasal passage and through those bubbles, a vibratory sound is made which sounds to the adults like a snore. But really, the baby snoring is anything but true snoring, as they will grow out of this as their nasal passage grows.

Things To Help Out

If it sounds like your little one is experiencing a lot of baby snoring, then you may want to see if the air passages need help with cleaning. Talk with your doctor or drug store about a saline solution that you can purchase, or even make at home, to squirt into your baby's nose. Another great way to help clear the nose of your little one and to help ease the baby snoring is to use steam. It is best to do this right before bedtime by jumping into a warm shower with your baby while holding him or her in your arms. But be careful that the shower is not too warm, as you do not want to burn the baby.

If after all of your attempts to ease the baby snoring you find that nothing works, you may want to consult a pediatrician. More than likely, he or she will tell you that there is nothing to be alarmed about and that the baby snoring that your little one is having is normal and he or she should grow out of it. But, if given enough time you find that your child has not grown out of the baby snoring phase then it is time to revisit the doctor to make sure that everything truly is okay.
