adsense alternatives

What alternatives are there to Adsense?

Have you been banned from Adsense? Perhaps you've been scared by the recent increase in postings all over the internet from dismayed webmasters (some honest, some not so honest) who are complaining about being terminated from Google's Adsense advertising PPC (pay per click) program.

Whatever your situation, it pays to be aware of some alternative advertising programs. Even if you are still using Adsense on your websites, utilising one or more of these other programs will ensure your eggs are never all in the one basket!
Do keep in mind that many of these programs are contextual, as is Adsense, and therefore can not be used on the same page as Adsense advertisements - simply check the Adsense TOS before implementing any of these other PPC programs in conjunction with your current Adsense placements.

I have chosen three companies to talk about today. These are Clicksor, Adbrite and Chitika. There are a plethora of other advertising networks out there, and I plan to bring you more of these in future.

Clicksor
Clicksor is a popular Adsense alternative advertising network which consists of CPC ads, banners and inline text links.
I will pay special attention to the inline text links here, as it really does set apart Clicksor from other networks. Basically, the text links work by automatically generating a regular anchor link when it picks up certain keywords in your content - this means you don't even need to insert ad code in certain places, Clicksor takes care of it all for you. Very easy to use!

Adbrite
Adbrite displays similar advertisements to Google Adsense and is a fantastic alternative. Although I have heard of advertisers having decreased earnings compared to Adsense, Adbrite is definitely a force to be reckoned with, particularly if your Adsense account has been terminated and you are looking for a viable alternative.
Adbrite is actually a lot less restrictive than Adsense in that they allow casino, Viagra/pharmacy and adult websites to display their ads. From my personal experience I have found Adbrite's customer service to be much more accessible and helpful than Adsense, with a much smaller, more personal feel to it (not surprising really when you consider the behemoth that is Google!).
Adbrite is one of my favorite Adsense alternatives and I believe it should be one of the very first networks you experiment with.

Chitika
Chitika eMinimalls took the webmaster community by storm when it was first announced. Promising targeted product ads, Chitika soon began providing webmasters with not only an equal earning opportunity as Adsense, but in many cases Chitika often brought in MORE money than people were earning with Adsense.
Soon after however, Chitika began "auditing" clicks and many webmasters had up to 80% of their earnings deducted each month.

Chitika continues to be a major force in the PPC world, however it is really only beneficial on "product-oriented" websites. Chitika is not only an Adsense alternative, but it is something you can use in conjunction with Adsense as well.

As you can see there are many viable alternatives to Google Adsense, so do look around and consider other programs.
I have only mentioned 3 of the most popular programs here, there are at least one hundred more out there - so ensure you try a few out and determine which best fits the theme of your website!
