Adsense Placement
Adsense placement concerns the location, format and success of placing certain sized Adsense ad blocks on your website.
Google has many different types of ad unit sizes available include:
Leaderboard
Banner
Half Banner
Skyscraper
Large Rectangle
Square
Link Units
They also recently introduced a new feature which allows you to choose from rounded or squared corners. This is useful if you do not blend your Adsense into your website background color.
Which Adsense placement is best?
This question is very hypothetical as it will totally depend on your website and target audience.
Many people find that using a large rectangle ad unit near the middle of the page performs extremely well.
Others find that a skyscraper in the left sidebar generates a high click through rate (CTR).
More and more we are learning that text link units can be successful if placed correctly. I like to have these running horizontally under the top banner or header graphic.
The only way to figure out which Adsense placement is best for your site is to test various formats and locations. You should note down your CTR with various placement positions and eventually you will come to realize which ones perform best for you.
