The Different Hawaii Flowers
We all know by now that every state has their own state bird and their own flower but Hawaii has more then just one flower. Well, to be exact, the state of Hawaii has only one official state flower but each island of the state has their own special official flower. The main state flower is the yellow hibiscus and the state first adopted this flower of all of its different colors as their official territorial flower back sometime in the early nineteen twenties. But then, in nineteen eighty-eight, the legislature of Hawaii legally named the yellow flower as their official flower.
There is no question that the hawaii flowers are amazing to look at and to smell so there is no wonder why they could not just pick one and ended up with a flower for each island. The hawaii flowers are like none other and are by far some of the most beautiful flowers in the world. And it is so fitting that hawaii flowers for the particular islands would be not only be of beauty, but of importance as well. Each flower seems to have a little something special about it, which makes it stand out among the crowd.
Island Flowers
For Oahu, the hawaii flowers that are used for this island is the yellow ilima, which the early Hawaiians used for curing a lot of general sicknesses. A lot of times, the juice that came from the pressed flowers were drank by small children. The big island has the red ohia as its special piece of hawaii flowers. This flower is said to be sacred to the volcano goddess of Hawaii. The flower for Kauai is strangely enough, not a flower as is the mokihana, which is a green berry.
The pink lokelani is the flower for the island of Maui and it also goes by the name of the pink cottage rose. This is the only plant that is not native to the island to be named an official flower as it was brought to the island back in the eighteen hundreds. The White kukui blossom is what the island of Molokai calls its official flower and this is a flower that can be seen the lei you may be given on your next visit. The kaunaoa is the flower for Lanai and the white pupu shell is the official flower for the island of Niihau, which is also used for lei making.
