Hawaii may be a little island but it has a big heart. This is reflected perfectly in the Hawaii Warriors, a college football team that has plenty of heart. The Warriors have often surprised bigger schools and better known teams with surprise wins and an aggressive determination for success. The Hawaii Warriors have also produced some of the most talented and successful NFL players today. These young men leave Hawaii knowing how to play the game and how to play it well.

Players of Today

Vince Manuwai is a former player of the Hawaii Warriors and now plays for the Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL. Currently he is an offensive lineman but he is an extremely versatile player. During his college career he was able to play any position on the field. College Football News also voted him All-America first team choice. The Hawaii Warriors awarded him the Warrior Club Award, an honor reserved for the team's best player.

Another outstanding player from the Hawaii Warriors is Mat McBriar. McBriar has an odd history, he is actually Australian and started playing Australian Rules football. He moved to Hawaii and from there was signed by the Dallas Cowboys. McBriar made headlines when he made a 75 yard punt, the second longest in the Cowboys' history.

Timmy Chang is famous in the Hawaii Warriors history. He was named Most Valuable Player twice, first in the 2003 Hawaii Bowl and later he shared the title with Chad Owens in the 2004 Hawaii Bowl. In both those games the Hawaii Warriors were victorious over the University of Houston and University of Alabama at Birmingham respectively. He now plays for the Tiger Cats in the Canadian Football League.

Coaches from the Past

A great team is nothing without a great coach and the Warriors have had a history of famous coaches leading them to victory. Among these great coaches is Clark Shaughnessy. Shaughnessy created groundbreaking techniques to create an attacking defense prior to coaching the Warriors in 1965. Shaughnessy was later inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1968 for his contribution to coaching.

It is clear from the talent that has emerged from the Hawaii Warriors and the coaches who have guided the team that there is something special about this team. It has the ability to surprise everyone and it's enthusiasm for the game has never disappeared in all the years of its establishment. The fans love this team and it's no wonder why.
