Beware Of Foods That Cause Heartburn
Heartburn is a very common condition today with some 60 million of Americans suffering from this problem. The main causes for this modern day problem are the up-rise of the consumption of junk food combined with highly stressful occupations and an almost complete lack of physical exercise. The result is lack of sleep, high acidity, indigestion and yes, - heartburn.
What Are The Foods That Cause Heartburn?
Besides the above reasons, the type of food you consume also causes heartburn. Since, this is one of the factors that could be most easily controlled, it is good to know (and preferably make a list) about foods that cause heartburn particularly for you. This is because there is a very long inventory of foods that cause heartburn but not all would be applicable to you; depending upon the severity of the symptoms these cause, you could decide which foods you should reduce or avoid completely.
The most common of all foods that cause heartburn is the orange; in fact all the citrus fruits fall into the no-no category of foods for those who are affected with heartburn. The next on the list are the coffee, tea, all types of aerated beverages, as well as alcoholic drinks. Chocolate and oil are also counted among the foods that cause heartburn.
There Are Many Other Reasons That Lead To This Condition
It is not only what you eat but what you think and what you wear that would cause heartburn. Stress - what you think - is said to be one of the major factors that lead to acidity and thence to heartburn. Similarly, if you wear too tight clothes (inner garments, pants, corsets, brassieres, vests, etc) you would also end up suffering from this digestive problem.
Other causes would be irregular meals, fondness of extra spicy food, addiction to deep fries and junk foods like burgers, pizza, etc., lack of exercise, lack of proper sleep, living with continuous stress and smoking among others. Fortunately, you can reverse this problem by simply eliminating the habits that cause it.
How Do You Regain Control?
For stress, you need to take serious steps to relax your mind and body through whatever means you could, i.e. learning to meditate, indulging in a hobby, taking a short weekend vacation, etc. For combating the physical damage caused to the mucous membrane of the stomach you would need to eat smaller meals at regular intervals, sleep better, and side by side learn to eat healthier. With the right diet, moderate exercise and a calm mind, you would be able to completely cure yourself from heartburn without any (or least) medication.
