Losing weight if you are overweight will also be helpful, and if you tend to experience worse heartburn at night a good idea is to prop a pillow up behind your head while you sleep so that the acids will be less likely to make their way up and into your esophagus. Even doing the seemingly simplest things such as avoiding tight clothes and tight belts will help with heartburn because you will not be squeezing your stomach as tightly, thereby reducing the amount of acids that make their way up from the stomach.
