Things Not To Do When Building A Home Theater
There are more and more home electronics on the market that allow people to do more of the things they used to do in other places at home. Going to the movies is one of those things. Let me just say right off the bat that building a home theater is great because you get to watch your DVDs whenever you want in a theater like setting, but there is nothing that beats the experience of going to a theater and seeing a movie on the real big screen. So enjoy building a home theater and enjoy watching your DVDs of the movies after they have had their run in the theaters but also know that you should probably take the time to take the family to the Drive-in movies or the theater so that you still get the experience of seeing the movie on the big screen as well.
When you are building a home theater there is a whole list of things to do and an even longer list of things not to do. You can find the lists of things to do anywhere so we are going to cover what not to do when building a home theater. Your first not to do thing is do not choose a room in your house that has a low ceiling. You want the movie experience to be wide open and the sound to have room to travel so that all of the sound effects have room to breathe. I know that sounds a little odd but a low ceiling when building a home theater is a bad idea. If you can touch the ceiling then it is too low. Try for the standard 8 foot ceilings at least although cathedral ceilings would be ideal.
No Bright Colors
When you are building a home theater and you are choosing colors for the room do not pick any bright colors. This means the rugs, the chairs, the paint for the walls and ceilings, everywhere there will be color it should be a dark color. If you notice in regular theaters everything except for the screen itself is done in darker shades of color. Many theaters are starting use dark grays and dark blues. Whatever your preference is just make sure that when you are building a home theater you do not put bright colors in the theater.
People hate hearing this but don't look for that great bargain on the equipment you will be installing when building a home theater. It would be a shame to spend all of that time and money on building the room and then use lousy equipment to show the movies. If you are committed to building a home theater then you may as well do the whole thing right and get the best quality equipment you can afford. But be prepared to shell out some serious money because real home theater equipment is not cheap and the stuff you want is going to be very expensive.
