What Exactly Is A Home Theater?

The term home theater can have a lot of different meanings to a lot of different people. If you go to a high performance audio store they will sometimes have a model home theater set up for you to look at with a giant screen television and huge speakers set up all over the room. Let's face it, people love movies and whenever you walk into one of those models all you can think about is where in your house this beautiful system will fit. But being even more honest is the reality that a large home theater system like that is probably more expensive than the average car so if you have to choose between getting the kids to school or being able to feel the laser blasts as you watch Star Wars then you will probably have to choose the car. But, like I said, home theater means different things to different people.

On the large side you have the kind of homes that you read about in magazines owned by athletes or rock stars who all have more money than any of us will ever dream of. Their home theater not only has a huge projection screen but it is set up like a movie theater with plush recliners and I have even seen shows where they have old time popcorn makers there as well. The sound is true 5.1 Dolby surround coming through a more powerful amplifier than anyone will ever need and coming out of speakers bigger than your refrigerator. That kind of a home theater is a dream to anyone else and while it is nice to dream it can be a little frustrating. How about something more realistic?

Movies On A Budget

You don't need a gold album or a world renowned jump shot to be able to have a home theater system of your own. You can get one on a regular budget and the dropping cost of technology is helping with that. You can get a large projection style television and a surround sound system for that television all for under $1,000 total. The plush recliners and popcorn maker is optional but a system like that gives you the equipment you will need to create your own home theater. The decorating is up to you.

Sitting among your own home theater is kind of nice and if you do it right you should be able to feel the horses coming from behind you as they are chasing the bad guy that you can see on the screen. If you do set up your own home theater might I recommend that you try watching The Exorcist as the first movie? You will never look at your television the same way again.
