If you take some time to find out about the person you are giving the gift to then you will save a lot of embarrassment when they receive the gift. You might have found a stunning pair of earrings which you know your friend would love. You buy them, and then she says thank you but I don't have pierced ears.
You might buy a certain metal within the jewelry and find that metal is the one they are allergic to or never wear. If they say it is a great piece but I don't like silver I would prefer gold, then you know not to get them anything in silver.
