Shanghai Tang Fashion and Lifestyle
Shanghai Tang is a store that was established in 1994 by a businessman from Hong Kong named David Tang Wing-Cheung. According to Mr. David Tang, Shanghai Tang showcases the best of Shanghai's 5,000 years of tradition combined with the vitality of the modern world. The store's name evokes the charm and fashionable elegance of 1930's Shanghai.
When Shanghai Tang opened, it attracted more than a million visitors in its initial year of operation and six years after, in 2000, this figure more than doubled reaching more than four million visitors.
Currently, Shanghai Tang is offering an ever-growing range of items like accessories, novelty gift items, home furnishings and collection of men's, women's and children's clothing. All of these collections of apparels reinforce the idea of Shanghai arts revival.
Exclusive to Shanghai Tang are masters of the traditional way of tailoring in Shanghai known as "Imperial Tailors". They are the ones who make sure that every piece created by Shanghai Tang truly captures the essence of Chinese elegance. The clothes that Shanghai Tang sells are skillfully crafted using the highest quality of fabrics such as linens, silk jacquards, chiffon, organza and printed cottons. These fabrics provide an exhilarating collection of garments with vibrant colors and amazing textures from which customers can choose from.
The idea behind Shanghai Tang is to set out and create the very first global Chinese fashion brand by reliving traditional Shanghai designs. This basically involves the combination of customary Chinese motifs and the designs of the New Millennium that results in a vibrant fusion of East and West cultures. The distinctive fashion of Shanghai Tang continues to evolve while maintaining a timeless style. The clothes that Shanghai Tang creates are not only classy but also functional.
The flagship store of Shanghai Tang occupies 12,000 square feet of the famous Pedder Building in Central Hong Kong. The store actually occupies two full floors with charming displays that draw customers - traditional Shanghai decors put next to modern Chinese art and contemporary motifs. This fusion of traditional and modern art is the unique style of Shanghai Tang, which distinguishes them all over the world.
In September of 1999 Shanghai Tang opened two more stores in Hong Kong, one at the Peninsula Hotel and another at the Hong Kong International Airport. Both stores are never different from the flagship store because they also personify the unique style that Shanghai Tang has been carrying ever since it was founded.
And because of its extreme popularity, Shanghai Tang opened two more shops in Singapore and then in New York where the ambience is literally "east meets west".
