In an ever-changing environment such as communication through computers and the internet there is a constantly growing and expanding need for web design experts to meet the changing needs of the public. From the first days where web pages only contained text, today's web design includes animated graphics and plug-ins to include videos and user interaction to provide entertainment in the information age.
Essentially, there are two types of web design, static or dynamic. Static web design offers the web page owner to display information that cannot be changed or entered unless the owner chooses to make the changes and publish them on their website. Dynamic web pages use numerous plug-ins that may allow users to input data such as information into forms or by responding to comments left by a previous user. Depending on the complexities used by the web design professional, the amount of data allowed to interact with a website can be controlled.
Cascading style sheets, commonly referred to as CSS, have also help web design advance as positioning information on the page as well as eliminating the need for entering duplicate instructions for every page on the site has allowed websites to be built faster and with more consistency. Getting information onto a website has become almost a race as business owners seek to expand their presence in the electronic marketplace.
Designers Learning Need To Keep It Simple
As more plug-ins are added to the web design, the time it takes for information to be sent to the end user increases and with many people still using a dial-up internet connection, frustration can quickly overcome curiosity. A majority of users expect web pages to load quickly and when the site that uses many different platforms or has a high concentration of graphics takes longer than a few seconds to load, many simply end the operation and move to another site.
While there are many different languages available for use in web design, the most common still remains HTML, or hyper text machine language. Even some of the plug-ins such as flash or Java are placed into the web page with instructions written in HTML. There is also extended HTML, or XHTML and dynamic HTML that give web design professionals more say in how the information is displayed on the page.
However, the basic understanding of web design is to make the information presented on the page appear professional, allow the site to load quickly and contain enough technical information for the site to be found by search engines.
